■ OBJECTIVES

To promote the FPD industrial vertical integration , enhance the global competitiveness, and upgrade the core competence of Taiwan information, electronic industries.

■ INTRODUCTION

• Taiwan government had designated flat panel display industry as one of the star within its “Two Trillion Twin Stars” industrial development policy since 2002. It is anticipated that by 2006, Taiwan flat panel display industry will attain a production value of one trillion NT dollars and account for 35% of the global market share with its parts & components having 35% of the global production value. According to the survey made by the IEK / ITRI, in order for Taiwan flat panel display industry to attain a production value of one trillion NT dollars, the self-sufficient rate of parts, components & devices had to be greater than 85%. Thus increasing localized manufactured of parts, components 7 devices will be the decisive factor as the current self-sufficient rate of parts, components & devices had to be greater than 85%. • As the industrial structure of flat-panel display up-stream industry (materials, parts, components & devices) is gradually becoming reality, there is a need for the establishment of Flat Panel Display Materials & Devices Association for industrial vertical integration and to communicate and interact with the already existing Taiwan TFT LCD Association (TTLA) for information exchange and for integrated research and development in order to enhance industrial competitiveness.
• As flat panel display development policy had already been listed as a national policy with defined strategies, the industrial sector, government, academia and research institutes should contribute their resources for development such that the competencies of Taiwan display industry will be enhanced that in turn upgrade the competencies of Taiwan display industry

■ MISSION

• Advocate the formation of technical R&D alliances among the up, mid, and down-stream manufacturers manufacturer to meet the new challenges of the display technologies.
• Devise means for industrial integration consolidating the strength of entire Taiwan display industry for industrial advancement.
• Accelerate the exchange of information (industrial & technical) among the local and foreign firms.
• Assist and participate in the establishment of product specifications & industrial standards and in activities concerning intellectual property rights, environmental protections…etc.
• Provide information on industrial trends and technical development.
• Consolidate Taiwan infrastructures for flat panel display development.
• Organize and participate in flat panel display development.
• Provide members with industrial information and social activities.
• Conduct research on flat panel display industrial development upon request by the government or private sector.
• Promote and implement items that complied with the TDMDA objectives and passed by the members.

■ Current Activities

• Hold annual meeting & periodical group meetings to consolidate industrial opinions and needs as reference materials for government policy makers in devising measures in the promotion of display industry.
• Participate in foreign related industrial conferences and exhibitions, at least once a year.?
• Provide members with industrial information and other social activities at least once every two months.
• Hire professionals to conduct research on display materials, devices, and trends upon request by the government and private sector.
• Render assistance in the application for Government’s Projects.
• Get involved in the establishment of global product specification & industrial standards and in activities concerning intellectual property rights and environmental protections.
